We are pulling all the stops this month when we chat with Odette Schimming for our City Style-Savvy edition.

A self-empowered feminist, with a love for fashion, entrepreneurship and food.  “Fashionably excited!”, as she would put it. Odette is a fashion image consultant/influencer and business woman in the making, who generally loves all forms of art.

Her family plays a great part in who she has become, and with them behind her, she is excited about what the future holds for me. As for Namibia,

a shout-out must be given to all the fashionista’s that are putting fashion on the regional and international map; YOU GIVE ME LIFE!

Wardrobe essentials

I always have a belt handy for both casual and formal looks. I couple that with a great piece of jewellery and a shoe & jeans and I am out of the house. For my hair I switch between a variety of looks depending on weather and fashion-genre I’m feeling inspired by that night. Other than that, I am a little protective about the little fashion tips I have, because again; a fashionista can’t open all the doors to her closet. Finally, I must mention my leather jacket collection and all the leather items in my closet as the backbone,I just love them all!

Travel destination for style inspiration

Based on how my life is set up, most of my fashion inspiration (based on my lived experience) comes from the vibes and scenes of Cape Town. But if I had to choose a place I had never been that inspires me, it would have to be London’s street and underground fashion with a touch of class and sophistication to throw the look off a little, and individualize it.

Best style tip

LESS IS MORE, ALWAYS!!!

Shopping tips

I know its a cliche, but QUALITY OVER QUANTITY, but that does not mean that if you cant grab a bunch of items at a ridiculously cheap price, it just means that a good trench-coat is always going to set you back a couple of thousands. Do the maths, ‘cos that’s just how it is.

Latest purchase

A skull ring from a vendor at Market Square in Cape Town.

Must try trend right now

Seeing that it’s winter; anything corduroy (especially in statement colours).

Go-to fashion statement

“Why fit in when you were born to stand out?” – ‘Mother’ Anna Wintour.

Favourite shopping spots

H&M is a great place to look for fashionable essentials, from there I like to go to the Lot for signature items. To bring it all together, I browse Spree & Superbalist for items online that catch my eye.

A fact no one knows about

I never wear make-up unless I am doing a shoot.

 A fashion hack

Still has to be cuffing your jeans 😉
