Hello there!

The Mono team embarked on celebrating our men this month.

Locally brewed and made. Men that are changing the creative industry’s game. Men that are changing the world one hilarious comment at a time. Sexy men, smart men, the gentlemen that we all expect and deserve. I could go on but time won’t allow. What I do have time for is if their sense of fashion is up to par.

Fashion is a sensual experience, meant both to delight and challenge taste, touch, sound, smell and sight. The whole experience of fashion is a total sensory overload for everyone.

Before we ventured into hosting Namibia’s first online Fashion and Lifestyle magazine, we had a blog and, on that blog, we ran numerous surveys that involved our men commenting on fashion and lifestyle topics. We have fond that Fashion is thus more than something to see for them, it is a full sensory experience that interacts with sight, touch, smell, sound, and taste; it is an art form with potential for full sensory delight, if they just paid a little closer attention to detail.

Here’s how you  can use the 5 sense to your advantage when it comes to owning your style.

  1. Sense of smell

Believe it or not, fabrics are infused with smells that tell them apart from other fabrics. For instance, the smell of leather is notorious and very distinctive, therefore it heavily influences which garments you purchase.  I would assume that 75% of you all own a leather jacket because of its distinct smell, touch and even aesthetics. Also, who doesn’t want to own thee staple piece ever?!

  1. Sense of touch

Initially, when buying clothes, you are likely to be attracted to the pattern or the design of the garment. But when you do experience feeling the actual fabric, you tend to be in such an exhilarating-hit-of-a-moment rush.

Ever felt a cashmere sweater? It is pure butter I say, pure better. It is so smooth that you would want to eat it up.

It is so important to experience the feel of fabrics as it is just as important as the design and the structure of all the garments you are looking into buying or already own because not doing so can put you off by material that would make wearing certain items way too uncomfortable, or unable to keep warm during winter.

  1. Sense of sight

Aesthetics, Aesthetics, Aesthetics simple. It’s all about aesthetics. It’s all visuals. Is the garment eye-catching? Did it captivate you instantly? If it did not forget about it.

  1. Sense of taste

I would use the sense of taste in the fashion industry metaphorically because it demonstrates the core aspects of individuality when it comes to presenting yourself to the fashion world. Highlighting yourself as an individual to those around you through the choices you make in textures, fabrics, and brand loyalties.

Think about it this way, when you go out, people will comment on your style, but when they look at your wardrobe as a collective, you are described by your taste.

  1. Sense of hearing

Anther fun fact, fringing, beading and metallic in fabrics are all components signifies melody in your sense of style. Confused? Ok, think of a crisp white T-shirt that has loud graphics on it. Literary. See, done.

Trusting that these are helpful and that you incorporate them into your lifeSTYLE

Until next time
