The “Tequila Spring Bash” is an annual DJ party hosted by LiveSquad & Kukulus Beer Garden. The team identified industry trends and realized that DJ’s are appreciated in the social sphere as they are now beginning to host shows/parties more often. The latter led the team to divert the focus from just DJ’s and including other forms of performing arts such as live bands, visual and culinary arts. A party for the music and art industry at large.

The theme of the first event for this year was

Versace; Summer time fine

As winters go, cold and dull, LiveSquad went with Gianni Versace’s brand which is known for its innovative designs having symbolic flashy prints and bright colors to compliment the feel of the event, a celebration of warmth and togetherness.

The aim…

The aim of the event was to get rid of the, dull and dark winter season and kick starting the new vibrant and bright summer season with a bang in the sensation vibe at Kukulus Beer Garden.

In the greater scheme of things, Livesquad aim at bridging the gap between the music/arts and the people by providing a platform where artists all across the board can showcase their music and art work. A music outreach program to spread the message of Responsibility across the industry. #ResponsibleCitizen movement

Who is behind it?

The event was organized by LiveSquad, Jenny’s Investment CC and housed by Kukulus Beer Garden.

LiveSquad is a gentlemen’s club with interest in the music industry focusing on music delivery. A coalition of gentlemen who strive to better not only themselves but each other and their respective communities. We have identified a disconnect between music & people and hope to become the brand that bridges the people to the music and vice versa. The responsible citizen movement is the foundation from which the bridge will stem.

The responsible citizen movement is based on spreading awareness on current issues and identifying that each one of us has a role to play in creating a community that supports each other for the greater good. The Live Sessions are to become the bridge to provide all of this.

LiveSquad plans to host open mic invitations and live band settings to give the opportunity for daring singers and instrument players to get their start in the industry.

We intend to branch into visual arts gradually, as current market trends do not make for the feasible transmission of visual arts events.

Jenny’s Investment CC is a catering and events management company trading out of Windhoek. Jenny’s team played a pivotal role in the décor of the venue and organization of the event in terms culinary needs and stock control role at the outside bar.

Kukulus Beer Garden, home of Tequila Spring Bash and where the first edition was held is an easy atmosphere, laid back, hot spot with ample space and great vibes. The thatched roof hang out area makes it ideal for both day and night time lounge sessions. The spacious dance floor in full view of in-house DJ’s, Expensive Musique makes it an unforgettable experience every time. To complement the beautiful setting they have two fully stocked bars capable of catering to a crowd  upwards of 300 people. They have fresh well grilled meat available, prepared in Shisha Nyama style, served with a selection of sides. Since Kukulus strives to provide a pleasing outdoors vibe, custom made Hookah pipes are available  for the connoisseur/s. Kukulus is situated at 2121, Samuel Shikomba Street, Old Club Thriller. The venue is secure with inside parking, security guards watching the vehicles parked outside and bouncers on the inside to assure the safety of our clientele. There are strict Right of Admission Reserved policies, trouble makers and non-cooperating clients are evicted from the venue immediately. The latter has been enforced to give peace of mind to the clientele as their safety and security needs make top priority at Kukulus Beer Garden. Kukulus Beer Garden supports the #ResponsibleCitizen movement, as no alcohol or cigarette products are sold to person under the age of 18.

 The concept…

Edition 1 of the Tequila Spring Bash held on the 8thSeptember 2018 gave birth to the first “LSDLive Session”. Live Sessions is a LiveSquad original concept were fans get to meet their favorite artist in an intimate, acoustic experience. The sound experience plays a vital role in the delivery of the music to the people and the ambience at Kukulus Beer Garden was a suiting fit for the delivery of a musical spectacle. Musicians were tasked with delivering their heartfelt stories and point of view of their musical journey in an interactive and engaging manner. With the Live Sessions, you meet your favorite artist up close, you would almost say they were in your living area.

The Live Sessions take the form of an outreach program for music and arts. The pre-event, which is held the evening before the Live Session, entails an open invitation/call for artist and other acts to grace the stage and showcase their skills, with the best two acts moving to join the headliners on Saturday’s main event.

The event was opened by Kukulus Beer Garden resident DJ’s, Expensive Musique, a group comprising of DJ Shoza and SYMLFA favorite DJ winner, Asser Deep. The DJ lineup made for an exciting night as we had RMK Soul, The Rhythm, Zottie THE DJ, DJ Deon, Just SAM and ITS2EZ trap nation DJ’s. The event was attended by and broadcasted live on online radio Shack72 represented by DJ Deon. A big shout out to them!

As our interest is in the music industry at large, we searched our local pool for up and coming acts who would add to the experience. In the search we found Leonard the guitarist who inspired us as he hosts “Room Sessions” on his Instagram . In his “Rooms sessions”, Leonard is joined by guest vocalists to perform original pieces and covers. A big shout out to him!

#leoonthestrings was complimented by upcoming pianist Samuel and DCT empire band members Ray, Lynn and saxophone genius Kay-Sax. Samuel made his mark playing in church and at various band gigs across the capital. DCT empire band is well known amongst live band lovers as they have had a stint of gigs across the capital. We had Lynn on the drums and Ray swapping in with Sam on the keys. Saxophonists Kay-Sax made for one of the best received and most exciting performers on the day. Keep your ear out for Kay-Sax, a little birdie tells us that there is a collaboration between him and a popular DJ in the making. The band collaborated with performing musicians as well as the DJ’s at the event.

We went with an artist line-up that represented our vision for future events in the industry. The event was opened with a bang up performance by Hip-Hop artist K.K., who took us down his musical journey, picking hits that made a huge impact on his journey and setting the bar high for upcoming acts. K.K. had the crowd on their feet as he performed “Put Em Up” a collaboration with then Qonja and his latest hit song “Khaima”. K.K. left the crowd buzzing as he dropped a new single of his new piece titled “!Gom !Gom”. Shout out to K.K, the performance was really !gom !gom.

We had another musician who boasts over 10 years of experience in the Kwaito industry in the form of Samuel Ngodji previously known as “Qonja”. Samuel made it Koek and Jam while giving the audience his experience in the industry and his journey. He gave us an exclusive listen to two of his new hits songs titled “iMWAKUMWAKU” and “COOL IN DIE POOL” off his upcoming album. Expect the “COOL IN DIE POOL” album, dropping soon.

The Panga Men, Cool Under Pressure came on to shut things down as they were the last performing act of the evening. Cool Under Pressure remained cool on stage as they demanded the crowd to come closer for their delivery. They led with “Heavy Friday” followed by their musical story through their track selection.

As was the order of the day, C.U.P left us with a taste in new music as they performed their new hit single “Put Mo Fire”.

The duo came with a clear message in line with the #ResponsibleCitizen movement as they encouraged attendees to curb women and child abuse in support of the Anti-Violence movement brought about by the tragic incident involving the late Avihe Cheryl Ujaha.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the aggrieved family.  C.U.P are #ResponsibleCitizens

Our interests were not only in performing acts, our search broadened as we came across vlogger, photographer and videographer, Manu Shapopi . Manu came on board to be our videographer and photographer for the event. Manu runs his own YouTube page, name similar to that of his Instagram handle, where he shares his view on things around him. One of our favorite videos by Manu is titled “People react to being called Beautiful”. Check out Manu on Instagram and YouTube.

The event was attended by over 250 people. For an event of that magnitude, everything went on without a hitch as sales moved swiftly with ladies on the floor for client convenience in getting drinks, no major fighting or theft incidents had been reported and the service delivery from Kukulus Beer Garden staff remained of high quality.

The complementary drink for the evening was Olmeca Tequila. Sales from the cocktail bar and happy hours instilled by the host ensured exposure to the Olmeca products by 220% of normal sales. The bestselling drink amongst the selection of Olmeca Tequila’s was the Dark Chocolate.
