Shopping for your body type can be trickier than most people believe. It takes more than looking at a top, purchasing it and believing that it’ll look good on you. What most people do is, they see their friends rocking an outfit and automatically believe they’d rock it too which is sometimes not the case.

So here are a few things you should keep in mind when shopping for your body:

  1. Know your body type– do not assume that just because Samantha* looks good in a tank top and high waist jean you will too. That’s the first mistake most women do. Dress for your shape. Find out what shape you are, there are several body shapes such as pear, hourglass, rectangle and the list goes on. For example; if your body type is hourglass (ample chest, narrow waist and full hips) you would want to avoid cardigans, tunics or baby-doll dresses, you would however want to wear more high waist pants, pencils skirts and wrap dresses. Tight dresses could also work for you).

  • Get to know your fabrics getting to know your fabrics could make shopping and dressing up much easier for you. You may find that some fabrics stretch and others don’t. I personally love fabrics that stretch but if you were to find a fabric that does not stretch, then it’d best to look for something flowy and wide. If you sweat a lot it’s also not advisable to shop for polyester fabrics, rather go for cotton based garments.

  • Recognize different cutsit’s all about knowing what you need, recognizing how a garment is cut will help you so much. A good example is a “round woman” someone who is evenly shaped. Now a round woman would want to avoid things like jumpsuits or straight-cut dresses. I would suggest dresses that are A-line cut to them.

  • Step out of your comfort zone we all have a different style and most of the time we stick to what we know to avoid making a mockery of ourselves. However, sometimes go out of your comfort zone, try out something that you’ve never tried out before. You might just surprise yourself. If you normally don’t show skin try showing a little skin, and vice versa. Try on that colour you don’t normally wear. You would be amazed at how stepping out of your comfort zone can broaden your style/wardrobe.

  • Just love your body. At the end of the day it doesn’t matter what you wear if you do not love and appreciate your body and wear your clothes with confidence you won’t look as good as you had hoped.

Wear all your clothes with confidence, darling and remember, you are never fully dressed without a smile
