As you know, I’m self employed and I work from home.

The consensus is that working from home may be distracting and not very productive. For me, it’s my favourite part of being an entrepreneur.

Here’s why:

1. MY TERMS

Because my livelihood is dependent on how and how much I work, I’ve set up a routine that works with me. I decide if I want to take the day off, if I want to work the entire weekend. I can decide to work 24/7 or not at all. Knowing that it’s all up to me makes me happy. Working for myself has made me realise that I’m capable of what I set my mind to. If I can put the same effort I did working for “The Man” into my own dream, I will be the happiest girl doing what I love.

2. I CAN NAP

This is top 2 (Obvs). Sometimes when I can’t function or when I’m not feeling too creative/productive I allow myself to take a break, which actually means, “take a nap”.

Whether it’s during lunch time or 3 pm, a nap allows me to rest and recuperate. And then get back to it after. I’m usually 1000 times more productive after I’ve taken a nap.

My couch naps are my favourite. Lol.

3. TIME & COST EFFECTIVE

Because I don’t need to sit 40 minutes in traffic to get to the office everyday or take out 1h30 minutes of my morning to get ready I save up to 3 hours of my day and put it right into my work.

I wake up at 5h30, shower and get straight to work. Take my lunch break at 1pm and then get back into it.

On some other days, I have meetings in the day and/or take out an hour for the gym. But I can afford to do that because I put in the hours on the other days.

It’s also cost effective because I don’t spend money on daily transport to get me to and from work, I don’t spend money on lunch because I can eat from my fridge. The only rent I pay is for my apartment.

At some point I will want to get an office, just so my staff won’t have to meet me in my living room or so that I am able to distance myself from work when I need to. My meetings would be in my office and not at a cafe in town etc.

For now I’m loving the arrangement. It takes a lot of self discipline and consistent hard work but if you know your “WHY”, you’ll know how important it is to put in the work and not get distracted by things like seeing your bed or TV.

Anyway, stay strong, young entrepreneur. It will all be worth it in the end.

Till next time.
