There I was, dressed in possibly my best Windhoek Fashion Week Day 2 outfit, applying the final touches to my makeup with great haste and excitement as the night also presented the prospect of meeting one of my favourite designers, David Tlale, when I suddenly heard the sound of rain against my roof.

First of all, I need to make it clear that I love rain. Dark clouds hovering above the city are usually met with celebrations. I love everything about rain… the sounds it makes when it hits the ground, the smell of rain and the feel of rain against my skin. However, when my hair is fresh out of the salon and facing possible future heat damage, my choice of eyeliner is anything but the waterproof kind, and I’m dressed in a skirt and slippery heels, rain is not a welcomed addition to my night.

My Day 2 Windhoek Fashion Week agenda was the private David Tlale meet and greet at Sumi and there was no way I was going to meet this man whose work I admire greatly looking like I entered into a boxing ring with Mother Nature… and lost.

So I decided that the honorable (dare I say?!) thing to do was to completely change my outfit and look because when life hands you lemons….. yeah, yeah, you know how the rest of the statement goes.

Luckily, days like yesterday were also planned for because I always, ALWAYS, have an extra look in case the unexpected – like a rip in my stockings or the remains of my food somehow end up on my clothes – occurs.

As a result, last night’s initial all black mini skirt and sweater outfit was swiftly changed to black loose pants from Woolworths, a grey shirt from Zara Basic, an oversized black blazer and neck scarf from The Sequel Vintage (@thesequel_vintagethreads), loafers from Gucci and a grey Bottega Veneta handbag. I added a personal touch in what I hope will soon be my signature…. a belted sleeve. To complete the look, I opted for a sleek bun to avoid a hair disaster should I have found myself running in the rain from the parking lot to the restaurant building.

The night was enjoyed in great company, delicious food and most importantly, comfort.
