“That platinum blonde hair has made you problematic!” my friend, Kevin, randomly said in what I’ve long come to learn is his way of complimenting someone.
When Kevin calls you a ‘problem’, he is in fact implying that a positive transformation has taken place, that you’re unapologetic about who you are and that you have found the voice to authentically express yourself.
It wasn’t until he said it that I realised that changing the colour of my hair so drastically somewhat metamorphosed me into a risk taker, especially where fashion is concerned.

The types of fashion risks I’m talking about aren’t the kind that will have me arriving on the fashion week red carpet in a cocoon (hey there, Lady Gaga!) or even dressed in a head to toe floral outfit (what’s good, Kim Kardashian?). The risks I’m talking about involve pushing the boundaries within the confines of what I find tasteful, because while it is occasionally necessary to do things out of the ordinary, I never want to lose the essence of who I am. And who I am, is a minimalist.

So, for Day 3 of Windhoek Fashion Week, which was held at the Nampower Convention Centre, I found myself draped in a navy blue short sleeves shirt from COS, which I paired with a white dress shirt from My Republik and a spider brooch from The Sequel Vintage. I chose a knee-length navy blue skirt, also from The Sequel Vintage and thigh high boots from Foschini, which I wore with belts. To add a final layer to my look, I wore a sleeves black coat from Zara. The handbag is so old that I can no longer remember where I purchased it.
