Being in the modelling industry since 2006 and with the thought of retiring this year, Meriam Kaxuxwena, sees no ending to the industry anytime soon after all.
We caught up with the super model, she gives us insight on modelling as a career and more…
How has the Namibian modelling industry changed over time?
The Namibian modelling industry is slowly improving and it is still a baby when it comes to the fashion industry. All industry related individuals and/or creatives are doing great things to help better the situation compared to the past few years. The more fashion events the industry hosts and creates the more models get involved.
Which supermodels did you look up to when you first started your modelling career?
I have always loved Naomi Campbell , Ajak Deng and Maria Borges. These ladies have paved the way for me and have influenced my life choices to becoming one of Namibia’s top super models.
With your modelling academy well underway. What values do you want to instill in the minds of the aspiring models signed under you?
I want to help aspiring models because 80% of these ladies have potential and they all need a small push by someone with experience. I want to help them get out there. They need to take modelling seriously because it is a job in its own right. It is now seen as a business and a career. At the end of it all, I want to help them gain confidence.
How was your lingerie brand been received since its launch?
Before the launch of the MK lingerie, My team and I team had been receiving pre-orders and it was running out of stock faster than I imagined. Namibian woman love my brand because it’s unique and different. It’s quality is undeniably excellent with no question . I’m so thankful to everyone for supporting me. I promise to restock soon.
When does the next collection drop?
7 September 2018. We are launching the MK Gym Wear
Describe your perfect day off …
On a typical day off, I hang out with friends and enjoy the pleasures of traveling to luxury islands for holidays to ease my mind and just relax.
Tell us, what’s the secret to a killer bod like yours?
I enjoy dancing every morning when I wake up, walking up my building stairs from 1st floor till 15 floor and going to the gym.
To be honest I am naturally skinny, it is in my genes.
MK is getting a reality show!
This is no surprise or news to anyone or at least her 98.3 K Instagram followers. Meriam will indeed be having her own MK Modelling reality show.
I have always wanted to have a reality show and the opportunity presented itself.
Meriam is currently involved with charity work and has her own foundation. She gets to use her platform as a social influencer to get involved in all areas she feels are dear to her heart. helping people in her country and beyond has brought Meriam, to recognize that working together to make the lives of disadvantaged Namibian children a little easier to do, when we are united.
People should expect to see new collections from her popular lines to hit the Namibian market, MK Swimwear, MK Lingerie and the MK Gym Wear.
