Make up, most people do not consider it an art. Some people see it as just another way of trying to change who you are, while others consider it a way to ‘enhance’ your beauty. Well, we spoke to Georgina Barnabas also known as Stacy, a very talented makeup artist to find out what she thinks about make-up as an art form.

Tell us a little bit more about yourself. Who is Stacy?
Stacy is a very shy and goofy 28-year-old who studied Travel and Tourism and works as a travel consultant.
What inspired you to do make up? And how long have you been doing it for?
I am a perfectionist and I think make-up is very detailed and specific and that inspires me to learn more. I think I started doing make-up 3 years ago and the funny thing is, it all started out as a joke.

Do you consider make up as an art form? Tell us a little bit more about that.
I always tell people make up is art!
It transforms, it expresses, it creates.
Think of it this way, instead of drawing/painting on a piece of paper, I get to use my face. So many times when I’m in my room trying out new looks, my family goes like “what is this crazy human being up to again”.
Us make-up artists, we are crazy.

Have you ever worked with any TV productions before? If so, what was the experience like?
Yes, two major TV programs in Angola. It was fun, got to meet and rub shoulders with people you only get to see on TV. So that was interesting for me.
What qualities/skills do you think one needs to do the things you do?
Honestly, everything I know is thanks to my curiosity, everything I see, I try. In reality I wanted to stand out, seeing that everyone was doing the same thing. I love being different in a world where we are forced to be like everyone else.
Anything you are currently working on at the moment?
Well I am busy building my studio, that’s all I can say for now.
What fascinates you about this line of work?
Like I said, make up is an art, it doesn’t just take a set of brush and eyeshadows. It takes talent, a lot of practice and passion.

Tell us about 2 season make-up trends you find interesting…
Highlight and contouring. I contour everything and I mean everything!
Do you think there’s a difference between regular make-up and make-up characterization?
Huge difference! Regular makeup is self-explanatory while makeup characterization requires more time, imagination, skills, creativity and a lot of practice.
Two things people don’t know about Stacy…
I like girls and food.
What advice would you have for someone looking to go in the same line as you?
Do not do it because it’s a “trend”. Do it because you are willing to go the extra mile.
