The Mono Team lest us in on what their summer looks like:

It’s December! Some of us are lucky enough to have enough leave days to put in and just escape the mad rush, even if it just for 2 weeks. So, what will I be up to?

The festive season has always been a time for family and friends, making time to catch up, reminisce and share dreams and plans for the coming year. I will be spending Christmas with my family at the farm. The parental unit have been working to make the farmhouse more inviting haha and they have finally succeeded so to the farm we go for Christmas! My sister and I will be holding a village garage sale to get rid of some of the clothes we just don’t wear anymore and to secure funds for some new pieces, so excited for this as it is long overdue! This will be the first New Years in a while for me that I won’t be turning it up by a beach so if you know of any cool NYE parties here in the capital, let a girl know!

Happy Holidays!

I believe holidays are to be spent with family so for this holiday I’ll be spending it with my family. My dad and I have it all planned out. First, my dad and I (just the two of us) are gonna drive out to Botswana to spend Christmas with him his side of the family while the rest of my family drive straight to Katima. It’s gonna be a blast I just know it,  especially because Tswanas love meat as you all know (or for those that don’t know) and I know that Christmas day will be filled with laughter, music and meat… lots of meat and ofcourse alcohol.. Immediately after Christmas we drive all the way to Katima to spend time with my mom’s side of the family got new years… that too will be a blast. I’m looking forward to eating mangoes under the tree (laughs). It’s been a while since I spent time with both my families like that so I’m really excited. I also look forward to the road trip. My dad and I always have fun on those.

As much as I “tried” to get my bikini-body ready all year, I haven’t reached my goal or any goal for that matter. This is however, not going to stop me from living my best life. What my summer holiday looks like as from today is  catching up on my sleep and pool-side  chills with family and friends. Refreshing drink recipes that I will be experiencing using Haig Club.  I can absolutely guarantee that you will find me wearing a bikini all day, everyday. Whether it’s a quick errand run  to the supermarket or simply driving around the city to try and catch the perfect sun downer spot. I have no intentions of spending my summer holiday doing the “entire Family Christmas party” thing this time around. It’s going to be all about spending time with myself, direct family and friends.

My Summer plans include champagne, solitude and lots of swimming! I will be traveling to South Africa for a week to meet up with all my varsity friends for a well deserved girls weekend at the beach. I’m ecstatic to see my girls as it’s been 8 years since we’ve all been together. Upon returning we will go camping on a farm in the South of Namibia- no electricity and no wi-fi! I will be catching up on sleep and can’t wait for the nature and the silence. We will spend our new years at Oanob Dam soaking up the sun and swimming all day long. I love spending my holidays relaxing and preparing myself mentally for the year ahead.

I could hardly wait to escape Windhoek, just so I could be in the north, yes my summer holiday like most of my life I am spending it back home.  The feeling of belonging which strikes me whenever I drive pass by Oshivelo cannot be comprehended. My summer holiday has been great thus far as I have eaten so much potato salad, something I have been craving for all year long. Wedding receptions have been awfully kind to me, surely it truly is December.

I would be lying if I was to say I am living my best life here.

I am tempted not to write on the heat but Oh MY! The North is HOT! I appreciate every drop of rainfall we have received over the past couple of nights.

As I type this I still have to go into the fields and scatter Fertilizer (cow dung) into the Mahangu fields.

This December the living it up can miss me and honestly I am not about to hashtag #KeDecember’ing myself through a time that is to promise me rest, quality time with my family and good traditional food, in that order.

I am thinking a tall glass of oshikundu with ice, paired with some oshiwambo marathon chicken, dipped in ondjove and finished off with the baddest pap to date. I want good Namibian traditional food, and I want it done to perfection. I want some time under a tree playing owela and laughing till my eyes water because family game time promises to be filled with some arguing, catching feelings and straight up fun.

This holiday for me is about family, food and rest, and I cannot wait!

Adios amigos, Okalongo awaits me.

Last year I spent my summer holiday at my village with my aunts and grannies. This year, I’ll be staying in Windhoek, napping. Lol. 2018 was a long year and I plan to use this time to recuperate. I’m going to try and sleep in as much as I can, laze around my place, eat and make myself delicious cocktails.

I also plan to use this time to reflect on the year that was and then see how I can make 2019 an even better year.

So my summer basically looks like naps. Glorious naps.
