Our favorite beauty-hair blogger and YouTuber, Nekwaya Iileka, lets’s us in on a get ready with me (GRWM) Valentine’s Day edition.
Valentine’s Day. I Love Valentine’s Day. Genuinely. I love celebrating love, and any excuse to do just that.
Now a Valentines Day dinner date in itself is a great thing, however, when Valentine’s Day falls on a week night, I tend to be a bit ‘meh’ about it. I mean I work hard at my job, like 8-5 sometimes 6 kind of hard, so having to dress up, look pretty and make good conversation with someone I want to like me can be a bit tricky.
Nevertheless, where there’s a will there’s a way, so after carefully sneaking out of my office at 4.30pm, I’m able to hit the road before end of day traffic peaks, meaning I get home just before 5pm. Getting home extra early means I not only am able to get in a quick shower, I’m also able to squeeze in a quick clarifying face mask. My current favorite is the L’oreal Pure Clay Detox Mask.
So it’s 5.25pm, I have clean, clear skin and I’m sitting down to do my makeup. Despite not having enough time to do a full face of makeup, I still want to have a flawless base so I start by priming my skin using my Benefit Cosmetics Porefessional Mattifying Primer, after which I use my NYX Cosmetics Conceal, Correct and Contour Palette to hide my ‘girl-stache’ and the one or two dark spots on my face. After this, it’s plain sailing with my Kat Von D Lock it Tattoo Foundation and the concealer from the same range. I dip back into the NYX Palette to Contour, before blending it all in with my Beauty Treats Powder.
5.45pm and I’m doing pretty okay on time and I figure a smokey eye is a quick way to crank up the sexy without having to be half naked. So I take my Juvia’s Place Masquerade Palette and use a concoction of the warm brown shades and the vivid dark pink shadows as my transition colour. Then I use my NYX Jumbo Pencil in Black Bean on my mobile lid to set the stage for my black eyeshadow which is from the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette.
From here on out, it’s blending and honey, my blend game stays strong.
I plop on my lashes, rose my cheeks with Raizin blush by MAC Cosmetics and use the Mineralize Skin Finish in Gold Deposit on my cheek bones for a sexy glow. At this point, my face is looking a little better than decent.
It’s just after 6pm, and I quickly line my lips with MAC’s Chestnut lipliner before going in with MAC’s Fresh Brew lipstick. Nude and Sexy is the name of the game tonight and my lips are no exception.
I transform my work friendly high bun, by attaching a hair piece that I’ve braided up and go from ‘Neki from Accounts’ to ‘Neki from Vogue’ with this high bun and jumbo braid.
I slip into my dress, which is a white form fitting dress from Fashion Nova, so you know it’s got the right levels of sexy. Spritz on my favourite perfume which is the Givenchy Very Irresistible EDP.
I literally shove a couple of pieces of sliced fruit down my throat before rushing out the door at 6.30pm.
As the clock hit 7pm, I make it to the restaurant just late enough for my date to watch me saunter ala Naomi Campbell across the room, giving him enough time to take all my hard work and effort in.
