We are 8 months in!

Celebrating  pop culture in and around our country is what this segment in Mono Fashion has been and will forever be one of our favourite achievements. We now embrace the creative world at such a level that communities no longer have to look far beyond borders to enjoy these privileges.

Namibia too is growing an enormous number of artists from all genres of the arts such as music, visual arts, performing arts, as well as fashion.

In our August issue, “The Guy Issue”, we celebrate Jean-Claude Nazarii, short for JC, as he takes on City Style-Savvy. Born in Windhoek but raised in the Etosha National Park, JC is an aspiring model, student in Web and Graphic Design at the College of the Arts.

Describe your style in three words…

Exploratory

Daring

Casual-Classic

Style tip you can’t live without…

My happy socks, lol. Being tall has its disadvantages such as pants being ¾ if you want them to sit above your butt and not “hang-gat”. So I use them to fill that lil space left (been getting questions as to why I love happy socks, that’s the answer 😂)

Three shopping tips…

1- Thrift shopping is life!

2- It’s not always about the brand. No brand clothing is cool as well.

3- If you see something you like on sale but it’s a big size… Buy and resize chommie!

What is in your bag right now?

I only carry a fanny pack: Money, pen, body spray and hair brush.

Latest purchase?

Shilongo Leather Shoes and a pair of black New Ports.

Trends you are trying out now?

Vintage shirts and jackets. They go with everything and anything.

Favourite hangout spot in the city?

If not at Cramer’s then I have to contemplate… I think I have a tag on me that says “If lost please return to Cramer’s”.

Who wants to introduce me to new places??

Who is your all-time fashion icon?

I really don’t look up to anyone but if I have to choose, I’ll go for Prince, his style was unique and daring for his era. If you were to wear his style now you’ll be considered “normal” or “stylish” but for his time… He made a statement.

What never goes out of season?

Your own style doesn’t. Trends come and go… Colour block was a thing in 2014-15 and now vintage/thrift clothing. Give it another year and something else will, thus you should stick to your own style.
