Upon learning the theme of this month, my mind wondered what men liked, besides soccer and beer of course.

The answer was food! Glorious food. To be more specific, Namibian men love Meat! Yes, that juicy fillet, chargrilled rib eye or that mouthwatering T-Bone steak.

So I went on the quest to find the best steak experiences in Windhoek.

I started off at The Taste Academy…

A quirky and classically styled eatery in the heart of Klein Windhoek. What I love about this place is the attention to detail, from the moment you walk in, it feels like home. I grabbed a seat in the corner and made myself comfortable.  I ordered the “Good ol’ Beef” ; a perfect grilled Beef Fillet with crispy fries, fresh garden salad, homemade salad dressing and my favorite hollandaise sauce.  I had a glass of 2017 Alvi’s Drift Merlot and it was the perfect combination with the juicy fillet and creamy hollandaise.  The portion size was more than enough and at N$120 this was very good value for my money. The plate was beautifully decorated with locally grown micro herbs and pumpkin seed powder. I felt relaxed and spoilt at the same time.

My next stop was at The Stellenbosch Wine Bar …

A Tuscan styled restaurant with a magical ambience. I sat outside close to the fountain and it felt like I was in Italy for the afternoon. I had a hard time deciding what to eat because everything sounded so good! I went for the  Rib Eye Steak with Garlic Butter and  a glass of 2017 Guardian Peak Merlot. The steak had a delicious distinct chargrilled taste and paired with the Merlot it was a perfect combination. The garlic butter melted in my mouth and the shoestring fries were satisfyingly crispy. I absolutely loved the feeling of enjoying a meal in this tranquil courtyard.  The food was simple, straight-forward and very tasty at fair price of N$166.

My last stop was at Joe’s beer house…

Because no steak experience would be complete without good old Joe’s. The ambience was vibey with tourists flocking in; in awe with the rustic decor and laid back atmosphere.  I was fairly hungry and decided to go with the  500g T-Bone steak with lemony garlic butter. The steak was soft and perfectly spiced with a barbeque aftertaste. Served with a soft baked potato covered in sour cream and fresh parsley. All of this for N$192.  I enjoyed my meal with a proudly Namibian wine from Erongo Mountain winery – The Etosha blend which is a Shiraz & Cabernet blend. I was pleasantly surprised and for a brief moment it didn’t feel like a Sunday – instead like the night before a big adventure.
