We  were all stunned when Georgina Kandjeke, popularly known as Foxxy first launched her fashion brand. Not only is she one of the greatest Namibian models to grace runways she is also well on her way on becoming one of Namibia’s favourite fashion brands.

Find out what she has planned…

When did you decide to transition from modeling to making garments?

I’ve always been in love with the fashion industry and have known it’s the only industry I want to work in. In 2016 i went to a pageant in Turkey and most of the girls I was competing with over there dabbled in two careers. Which motivated me to figure out what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I had the option of being a beautician or a designer, I obviously chose fashion design because there was definitely more passion there and it just seemed the obvious choice to make my hobby my career.
I then bought my machine early 2017 and with it I found love. I decided fashion was it and haven’t done any major modelling since.

Is that what you’ve always wanted to do? Talk to us about that affair…

My grandfather used to make clothes for his children. My mother used to knit all sorts of clothes for us and never really took up stitching because she had a full time job. I’m the lucky one of my siblings that got the artistic gene and decided to pursue fashion. I’ve always been fascinated by fabric and what creative beauty can come from a piece of cloth. I took my aunts sewing machine when I was a teenager and I taught myself how to use it. I loved every moment. I just think I took long to start my fashion brand because I equally love modelling and it was practically impossible to do both in my early 20s cause I travelled a lot. My modelling career came to a pause when I had my daughter and it has been the perfect time to start my brand. I guess the timing has been perfect.

Do you still model?

I haven’t modelled in a while but I recently shot my own bikini collection and it has made me realise I could still do both. Who better to open a runway for Foxxy than Foxxy?

What are your plans for the Foxxy brand?

I have so many plans for Foxxy but I’ve learned that baby steps are best if you want to control your growth.
I’m still perfecting my craft but I’m definitely keeping my eye on bigger things. I want to showcase across borders.
I want a fashion house that produces both couture and ready to wear garments. I want to be in a position to introduce upcoming designers who like me didn’t necessarily study fashion but have both the passion and undeniable talent to make it in the industry.

I want to create a men’s line that compliments the vibe Foxxy gives off. Basically I want to build an empire.

What do you want your daughter to take from your journey?

I want my daughter to understand how I came to achieve everything I have and pass on my hard work and perseverance to her. If she can look at me with half the pride I have when I think of how hard working my mother was, I will have won at being her mother.
