Ashwyn Mberi says hi and we are listening! Could be his voice, but also because he speaks  great sense all the time. The talented and creative performer is always advocating a good case for the black child but especially for the black girl child. We caught up with Ashwyn to help us determine how men could literally save the world.

Happy read!

What would you call this chapter of your life?

I’d call this the building chapter. I’m aware of the responsibilities that come with my purpose as a performer and Art-enabler and I have begun to create a foundation that will allow my goals to take their full form.

What current projects are you most excited about?

Aside from The Gathering, I am looking forward to directing another Theatre Play which will be staged in October, but before that I’ll release my EP, which has been in the works for some time now.

What essentially do you want to be known for?

For enabling art in spaces, living and fighting for my truth through art.

Aspiration for your career and life?

I aspire to have a life full of love and the freedom to create, limitlessly. As for accolades etc

Man gives the award but God gives the reward.

5 Things Men Can Do To Save The World:

We can stop being trash. I’ll break THAT down into 5 points with focus on African men in particular:

  • Take responsibility for the violent culture of inequality that we have created and perpetuate each day.
  • Make each other take responsibility for our actions and speech patterns which are reflective of the wide disrespect of women and violence towards the lgbtqi community as well.
  • Stop being lazy lovers, that means instead of asking women to be less of themselves, we need to learn to become worthy of them which takes effort so, yeah, stop being lazy.
  • Be careful of the lessons we pass on to the next generation of our men, we were raised in the stew of toxic masculinity, we cannot feed the same to the next generation.
  • Heal. You are deserving of love African man, but you have got learn to love yourself correctly, only then will you be able to love others, so please, focus on your healing.
