Mutindi Jacobs has made us all want to scrap everything about our homes, just so that we can start over and have our spaces look as close as possible to what her home currently looks like.

While we wait for a new YouTube video we chat to Mutindi about her love for making spaces pretty as well as her new channel.

So who is Mutindi?

Mutindi Lydia Jacobs is a wife, mother of two, full time lawyer and part time floral stylist at Karibu Flowers. Holistically, Mutindi is a spirit on a human journey just looking to share some light and positive energy with the world through the use of her gifts.

What do you want to be known for?

I want to be known as somebody who identified their gifts and used them in service to others whilst glorifying the name of God.

Talk to us about your love for interior deco?

Getting here was a journey I didn’t even realise I was on until my husband pointed it out to me. When we moved to Namibia from Kenya, we stayed with an aunt who would constantly find me in the street just next to her house sweeping the road. At the age of 4/5 years I was obsessed with keeping things organised and making everything around me look beautiful. At 21 I started my first formal business, Karibu Events, which focused on wedding planning, event styling and catering equipment hire. My favourite part about my business would be the styling of an event, placing flowers on the table and making a room better than it was before. This is perhaps the moment when I realised my deep passion and gift for making things beautiful. I soon translated this passion for making things beautiful into a floral business, Karibu Flowers.

I have no training or qualification in interior design, I am not an interior designer, but simply a home stylist or decorator. A few months ago, I didn’t know anything substantial about interior decorating or styling and a lot of my training has come from conversations with my husband who has an amazing eye and appreciation for interiors.

Once I came to appreciate the basics of interior styling, which was actually a natural progression from event styling,  I decided to start experimenting in our home one room at a time. After successfully styling our sons nursery and getting a lot positive feedback from our loved ones, I gained enough confidence in my styling abilities and decided to do it more seriously. My YouTube channel began when I decided to refurbish more rooms in our family home and document the process.

What’s your favourite room in your house? Was that your favourite to put together?

My favourite room in the house keeps changing as I continue to improve on them. A couple of weeks ago it was my guest bathroom, but now it’s the kitchen because I have just finished styling it. My kitchen represents my vision for what I’ve always wanted in a kitchen; which is neat and organised, stylish and a pleasure to work and be in.

Your favourite home and deco shop?

I have many, but my go-to is definitely Pep Home. I have found some amazing home organisation and decorative items from Pep Home at super affordable prices. Other favourites of mine include At Home, Mr Price Home and Amazon for one of a kind decorative pieces.

What home trend are you obsessed with right now?

I am currently obsessed with contemporary round mirrors and have been making use of them all over my house. I purchased mine from Mr Price Home and recently hung one of them over my console table in the entryway, and another above my credenza (buffet table). They are modern and minimalist which means that you can style them around many other accessories without overwhelming the space. They brighten up any room, reflect light, make a space look bigger and compliment most, if not most interior design styles.

What 3 accessories/items should every living room have?

  1. A coffee table, from which to serve your guests, display your coffee table books and other accessories;
  2. A rug to anchor the room; and
  3. A big comfortable couch styled with cushions and a throw blanket

What’s your ultimate deco project?

I would love to get an opportunity to style an entire house from top to bottom as well as a hospitality establishment.

Plans for your channel and brand? What can we look forward to?

I am amazed by how much support and love I have received on my YouTube channel and I am excited to collaborate with lifestyle brands and clients needing my services. You can look forward to more DIY content, features of client’s homes and a soon to be launched lifestyle and home décor line.

My intention is to help my viewer’s style and organise their homes in a way that honours their highest vision for themselves in a way that empowers them and makes them look forward to going home every day.
